Inauguration of the New German Embassy in Vienna

On October 22, 2025, the new building of the German Embassy in Vienna was officially inaugurated by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. Since 1879, Germany’s diplomatic mission in Austria has been located in the embassy district near the Lower Belvedere. The new embassy building, completed in 2025, benefits — like its two predecessors on the same site — from a generous distance to the surrounding streets. A spacious garden surrounds the ensemble, giving it a distinctive and prominent character within its urban context. The embassy’s architecture conveys openness and lightness, engaging in a visible dialogue with the urban environment of the host country. The new building in Vienna cost around 45 million euros. It also houses Germany’s Permanent Mission to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
